Newcastle City Council has confirmed that a pair of investigations are under way into two Blandford Street venues.
However, manager Paul Row is scratching his head as to why his other venue is being investigated - considering it is a swingers' club. Newcastle City Council has confirmed it is investigating both Blandford Street venues following unspecified "complaints". But with a councils spokesman unable to confirm why the swinger's club is also being investigated, the prob has left Paul scratching his head. The Tipsy Cow has been open since July 4, the day dubbed 'Super Saturday' when England's boozers opened after months of lockdown. Paul suspects the noise from it has caught the council's ears. However there weren't many people there at all, but the sound of the music clearly carried.
He claims an apology has since been offered up to those impacted by the noise, adding that the venue is working with the council and the area to avoid future repeats.
The venue, which has a dungeon and hot tub, announced at the end of March it was shutting to comply with Government rules. A flurry of recent posts on Shhh's Facebook informs members that, while renovation work has been ongoing, it is still closed during this "difficult time".
But while Paul insists that the swinger's club has been closed, it isn't the first time The Tipsy Cow has caught the attention of the authorities since lockdown ended. Just hours after reopening on July 4, police were called amid claims there were "approximately 50" people drinking outside. The caller also claimed loud music was being blasted to the crowd who were "not socially distancing". Northumbria Police took no action on that instance. By Ian Johnson Multimedia Journalist.
